You’re probably living under a rock if you haven’t heard about the 85 year old philanthropist and business mogul Warren Buffet. He’s known the world over as one of the most successful (if not the most successful) business person on the planet. Every year since 2012, Buffet runs a charity campaign on eBay called the Power Lunch where he donates the money raised to a charity (a different one every year).
A couple of years ago, The Glide Foundation was his charity of choice. Glide’s objective is to help homeless people who reside in the San Francisco Bay area of California. Mr. Buffet describes the foundation as “maybe the most effective organization I’ve seen for people down on their luck. It takes people who have hit bottom and brings them back. I’ve seen it with my own eyes.
Bidding for the Power Lunch opened up at $25, 000 USD and went on until a winner emerged. Though the winner remains anonymous (presumably because they’re afraid of being stoned to death for spending so much money on a single meal), the winning bid does not – He or she ended up paying $3, 456, 789 for the experience.
Here’s the bang they’re getting for their buck
According to Mr. Buffet’s team, the winner gets to invite seven other people of their choice to the meal, which was at The Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse Restaurant in New York City that year. While diners get to enjoy scrumptious food and drink with one of the smartest business folks alive, they get to chat about almost anything.
Buffet said that through the years, the topics of conversation at this event have varied over the years, but he does have one topic that’s completely off limits no matter who the winner ends up being or what they pay – The business mogul is keeping his lips zipped about any future investments.
Hopefully whoever was at that lunch made the most of it so that they could hopefully invest in the right things and get some of their money back! What’s the most expensive meal you’ve ever had?
