4 Inexpensive Products That Will Make The Inside Of Your Vehicle Look And Smell Better

There’s something to be said about older vehicles. They have a certain charm that today’s just can’t match, even with all of their fancy technology. But unless you really luck out or happen to be one of the first few owners of said vehicle, there’s a good chance that your ride could use a little TLC.

Of course, you could always take it in to be detailed, but it’s not cheap and results are not always guaranteed. Before rushing to a professional, you could try to get things to a more presentable state yourself first. At the very least, you’ll make the professional’s job easier. The following four products won’t cost you very much and aren’t guaranteed to bring your interior back to a clean slate, but they will make the inside of your vehicle look and smell better.

The Problem: Your seats are beyond cleaning

The Solution: New seat covers!

Sometimes you’re able to wipe your seats off and be done with it. Other times, they’re way beyond that. If your seats even remotely resemble the state of those in the above picture, you fall into the latter category. Ideally, you’re going to want to completely replace them at some point, but until then some new seat covers will make a huge difference.

These will cost you less than thirty dollars and fit most vehicles. If bright, sunny colors are more your thing, check these out – They’re a little more expensive, but they’re a lot more fun.

The Problem: Your rugs are a completely different color than they should be

The Solution: A good carpet cleaner

Some people vacuum their vehicle(s) out every once in a while, but very few go the extra mile and actually shampoo their carpets. Between pets, smoke, food stains, and who knows what else, the look and smell of the floor and floor mats usually ends up leaving a lot to be desired. Luckily, there are lots of products on the market geared toward giving your vehicle’s floors a good, deep clean.

This one costs less than five bucks and pulls double duty – In addition to lifting stains (with the help of the included brush if they’re tough), it also helps deodorize your interior.

The Problem: Your dash isn’t looking much better than the floors

The Solution: A decent interior cleaner and some elbow grease

All of the stuff I mentioned above doesn’t just affect the floors of your vehicle. There’s a good chance that if your floors are a complete disgrace, your dash, doors, and other interior bits aren’t doing much better. There are so many different products available for this, but a good multi-purpose will do the job just fine. By using a multipurpose interior cleaner, you won’t get stuck storing a bottle that you almost never use.

This one is pretty inexpensive, safe for all materials, doesn’t contain dyes or fragrance (so you won’t have to deal with awful contrasting scents from your floor cleaner), and doesn’t leave any residue behind. The best part is that once you’re done using it in your vehicle, you can use it to clean your house!

The Problem: No matter what you do, your interior still stinks

The Solution: Time to call in some reinforcements

Those hanging air fresheners that you can pick up at the gas station are incredibly overpowering and only last for so long. If the interior of your vehicle seems to stink no matter what you do, you have a couple of options. First, sprinkle baking soda all over the fabric and let it sit (ideally overnight but for at least a couple of hours); the longer it sits, the more it will neutralize the odors that are hanging on. Vacuum it all up before proceeding.

Next, you’ll need something like this to really freshen things up. It claims to have a ‘new car scent’, but I personally think that it smells more like a floral air freshener. Anyway, spray this all over the fabric to finish the job before you head out for a tour in your much newer looking, better smelling ride.
